Recently my sister explained to my seven year old nephew what a same sex relationship is, as he is soon to attend my civil partnership ceremony as a ring bearer.
He is no stranger to the word 'gay' as it is the word of choice to insult something on the school playground. However, the concept of same sex relationships was new to him.
According to my sister, he listened quietly, nodded in understanding at everything, and finally responded "I didn't know girls could have girlfriends and boys could have boyfriends. That's great. I want to have a boyfriend when I'm older, I hate girls"!
